King County has requested the Center to undertake research on existing literature and analyses of the roles and uses of naturally occurring and artificially placed large woody debris (LWD) in Puget Sound streams and rivers, and to create products that can be used to guide and evaluate the use of LWD in stream rehabilitation projects. These products will provide the basis for design guidelines for the use of LWD in capital projects proposed or undertaken by government and non-governmental organizations, citizen volunteers, or others. The purpose is to help ensure that future uses of LWD in the Puget Sound region be undertaken safely, effectively, and economically.
The project was led by Derek Booth and Martin Fox from the Civil
& Environmental Engineering Department and the College of Forest Resources.
