About the speaker
Dr. Clare Ryan is an Associate Professor of Natural Resource Policy at the College of Forest Resources, and has adjunct faculty appointments at both the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs and the School of Marine Affairs. Before becoming a professor, she worked as a scientist and manager for more than 7 years in state (Washington Department of Ecology) and federal (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) natural resource management agencies. Her research focuses on three areas of applied natural resource science and policy: 1) policy implementation – particularly water resource policy and management; 2) institutional and organizational aspects related to integrating science into policy and management; and 3) collaboration and conflict management. Currently, she is investigating the integration of scientific information into management decision-making at the US Forest Service and other federal agencies; and continuing to examine watershed planning and restoration processes and programs.
B.S. in environmental science and chemistry from Western Washington University
M.S. and Ph.D. in resource policy and administration from the University of Michigan
