About the speaker

Dan Miller received his B.S. in physics from the University of Nebraska. He went on to study geophysics at the University of Hawaii, where he earned his M.S. and then received a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Washington.

He is interested in the combined use of field observations and computer simulations to elucidate interactions between physical and biological systems in river environments, scale relations in measures of physical attributes, and the use of physical and empirical models for risk assessment.

Dr. Miller works as a geomorphologist for the Earth Systems Institute, a non-profit organization studying the dynamic interactions between terrestrial and riverine landscapes for applications in natural resource management, watershed restoration, and conservation. He also does consulting work with M2 Environmental Services.
