Undergraduate Information
Healthy riparian areas are a key component of maintaining diverse and healthy ecosystems. Many of the major environmental and management issues in the Pacific Northwest are water and stream related. Consequently, students looking to pursue carreers in these areas are well served by a basic knowledge of the physical and biological features of stream areas. A minor in streamside studies, offered through the College of Forest Resources, will provide a solid understanding of fundamental watershed issues to the undergraduate student. Also, completion of the minor is evidence to employers of your background and interest in stream science.
Anyone can apply for the minor, which is designed to complement knowledge in forestry, fisheries, civil engineering, and geology. To apply for the Streamside minor program, fill out a form with the Office of Student and Academic Services in the College of Forest Resources (Anderson Hall rooms 115 and 116). In addition, we polled graduate students from disciplines often involved in water resources and watershed research in order to furnish a list of classes they felt were particularly useful to students embarking on a career in watershed science.
